Rivington School Direct
School Direct is an initiative that enables prospective trainees an opportunity to choose the group of schools they would like to be trained in. It also gives them a greater opportunity to develop much closer links with those schools during and after their training.
Rivington School Direct is a partnership of eleven secondary schools in Bolton and one North West University supported by primary and secondary special schools and the Bolton Pupil Referral Service to deliver Initial Teacher Training.
Harper Green School, Ladybridge High School, Mount St Joseph Business and Enterprise College, Rivington and Blackrod High School, St Joseph's RC High School, Sharples School, Thornleigh Salesian College, Turton High School, Westhoughton High School, Essa Academy and Smithills School are the 11 Secondary schools in the partnership with the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) our partner University. Firwood High School, our Secondary and Ladywood Special School, our Primary are our supporting special schools. The partnership is also working strategically with the Ladywood Teaching School Alliance. We have 14 trainees for 2014-2015 currently being trained in these schools. All of our trainees from 2013-2014 have gained teaching posts for September 2014.
The subjects we are offering for 2015-2016 are Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Modern Foreign Languages (French, Spanish, German), History, Geography, Religious Studies, Drama, Computer Science, Art & Design, Business Studies, Design Technology, Physical Education, Social Sciences & Music. We have considerably more places for 2015-2016 than in previous years.
Trainees will have an opportunity to experience a wide variety of alternative school settings, follow a unique Foundation Leadership course and gain a PGCE with Masters Accreditation through the Manchester Metropolitan University (which has been graded as Outstanding for all areas of Initial Teacher Training).
