Subject overview
Our art and design curriculum engages, inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
As pupils progress, we equip them with the skills needed to think critically, which in turn helps them to develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design.
They become increasingly competent in considering the societal impact of art, reflecting upon how art and design reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
Key Stage 3 overview
We follow the national curriculum for art and design at Key Stage 3.
Our young people will be taught to develop their creativity and ideas, and increase proficiency in their execution. They will develop a critical understanding of artists, architects and designers, expressing reasoned judgments that can inform their own work.

Key Stage 4 overview
For students who wish to continue their art and design education, we offer three possible courses at Key Stage 4.. They are GCSE qualifications in Art and Design, though one course focuses on Fine Art, one is a Photography specialism and one is a Textiles specialism.
While all three options offer an excellent grounding to prepare students for future art and design study, they are also an excellent choice for students who enjoy being creative or for those who want to develop transferable skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and creativity.
Kay Stage 4 GCSE - FINE ART
In this course students will explore their ideas and create their own artwork in response to a theme. They will develop their skills and understanding in a wide range of media and techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed-media and print making.
