A Message From Ms Heppenstall...
Thursday, 18th July 2024
As we come to the close of what has been a very busy half term for our staff and students, I’m pleased to share some highlights from Half Term 6.
I must start by expressing how immensely proud I am of our Year 11 students, who sat their GCSE exams throughout May and June. Their commitment to learning, revision and the exams was outstanding and their engagement in the exam hall was fantastic. I then had the opportunity, alongside our staff, to celebrate their time with us at their leavers’ assembly and experience their prom with them. It was joyful to see them dance the night away.
Our annual Years 7 to 10 Celebration Evening on Thursday, 11th July, was a fantastic evening filled with live performances and awards. Well done to all the students who won an award and a heartfelt thank you to the parents and carers who joined us in the celebration.
We have had a lot of cricketing success during Half Term 6 and we are proud of all the teams. They have worn their new cricket whites with pride, modelling excellent teamwork and camaraderie throughout. The captains have shown great leadership skills.
Our Year 10s have been vying for leadership positions over the past three weeks. It has been a rigorous process involving interviews, teamwork days and being positive role models. I am delighted to announce that our Head Students are Manda Reid and Mehak Azmat, supported ably by our Deputy Head Students, Harry Heenan and Success Appeal. I know they will rise to this challenge and I look forward to working with them over the coming year. In addition to the Leadership Team, we have appointed Senior Leads to support the school in driving student wellbeing, inclusion, sport, charity, and community forward. These student leaders will lead a student-centred change in the school. All students across Years 7 to 10 next academic year will have the chance to put themselves forward for junior leadership positions of responsibility to help in these areas or as a form representative.
We have had numerous enrichment opportunities since the Year 11 exams: our KS3 humanities students have been to Salford Quays, we have taken students on reward trips to the Etihad Stadium and Blackpool Pleasure Beach, hosted our inaugural science fair, welcomed Medical Mavericks in school for our Year 9s, organised College Taster Days for our Year 10s and arranged a series of fishing trips, to name but a few. These activities have offered different opportunities beyond classroom learning, which is key to our students’ development as whole individuals. This week, we have hosted our inaugural colour run rewards event, our annual House Day, Sports Day and a trip to Chester Zoo. None of this could happen without the commitment of our staff in offering these opportunities to our students, so I’d like to take the opportunity to thank them.
It has been a jam packed half term, helping our students develop meaningful experiences and make memories with their friends.
I hope that you have a wonderful summer.
