Headboy and Year 11 Cricket Star Shines in Top Lancashire League
Tuesday, 18th June 2024
Year 11 student and head boy, Bradley, has been making waves in the world of cricket, balancing his education whilst emerging as a standout cricketer in the Liverpool Competition Premier League, one of Lancashire’s top leagues. We spoke with Bradley’s father to find out more about Bradleys incredible achievements and where it all started.
Q How long has Bradley been playing for?
Bradley had a bat in his hands before he could walk and this hasn't really changed to date. It's not unusual to see him throwing a ball about or playing imaginary shots around the house. He started playing when he was five years old playing his first game for Farnworth Social Circle CC (FSC) against Kearsley.
Q Who has he played for?
Bradley’s home club will always be FSC where he has grown up and developed into the player he is today. We recently took the difficult choice to move to Wigan Cricket Club who play in the Liverpool Competition Premier League which is seen as one of the best leagues in Lancashire, this move has already brought him face to face with county players who are still contracted to local clubs.
Q What has inspired him to play?
Bradley’s inspiration comes from a family tradition of cricket. He’s been around cricket since he was born through me and his uncle playing for FSC. He was brought up through the FSC junior set up and is driven on by wanting to improve and play against better players. He has made multiple connections with former international and first-class county players who have coached him whilst at Lancashire like Graeme Onions and Steven Croft amongst others.
Q What are his representative honours?
Since the age of 10, Bradley has been involved with Lancashire, playing for both County Age Group teams and the Emerging Players Programme (EPP), which serves as a bridge between the Age Group squad and the Academy. In 2023, he captained the Under-15s side and has also represented the Bolton District and Interleague. Despite a challenging period when he wasn’t selected for the Under-11s squad, Bradley used the setback as motivation. His hard work earned him a place in the Under-12s squad and later the EPP.
Q Who does he currently play for and why did he make the move?
Bradley now plays for Wigan’s first team, where he has already made significant contributions, including scoring the winning runs against one of the league’s top sides, Northern CC. He moved because he wanted to challenge himself in a tougher league playing against players in or close to professional level.
Q What are Bradley’s ambitions in cricket and beyond?
In the short term, Bradley aims to settle into his new club and continue performing well for Lancashire in the cup this year. Long-term, he hopes to join the Lancashire Academy and eventually play professionally. He also plans to take a gap year between college and university to play cricket in Australia. Bradley’s ultimate goal is to develop his skills and knowledge and secure a contract with the county.
Well done, Bradley! We are incredibly proud of your dedication and hard work. We look forward to following your exciting journey and watching your continued success.
