School Uniform
At Harper Green School, we have high expectations of our students and our uniform plays an important part in creating a sense of pride, belonging and identity. Students are expected to wear the correct uniform at all times, including when travelling to and from school.
From September 2026, our uniform has been updated in line with Department for Education guidance to make school uniform more affordable for families by reducing the number of compulsory branded items, while maintaining the high standards of presentation expected at Harper Green.
New Year 7 Students – Free Blazer and Tie
We are delighted to provide every student joining Year 7 from September 2026 with a free Harper Green blazer and tie. This initiative is designed to support families and help every child start secondary school feeling proud to be part of our school community.

*We appreciate that, for some cultural or religious celebrations such as Eid, students may wish to wear henna. This can be permitted, but parents/carers must contact the school in writing in advance, before the henna is applied.
Additional Guidance
Hair
- Hair must not be shorter than a 1.5 grade
- Hair should not be extreme. We determine extreme as…
- significant variety in length on the same head (for example a shaved underneath, top knot, shaved sides)
- no artwork, lines or tramlines
- All hair should be in line with the natural colour spectrum. In addition, there should be...
- no block colouring (for example a dip dye or at the roots)
- no stripes (for example highlights) or extreme colour contrasts
- Hair accessories must be discrete, plain and either black, maroon or white.
- Head scarves worn for religious reasons must be plain and either black or maroon.
- The final decision on what is acceptable rests with Deputy Headteacher (Behaviour Attitudes and Personal Development) to ensure consistency. Please contact the school prior to purchase if you would like prior approval.

Shoes and Footwear
Shoes should be:
- Plain black, flat and formal
- Sturdy (but not boots)
- Suitable for polishing
- Free from visible logos, coloured flashes or contrasting trims
Please note that some retailers market footwear as school shoes that does not meet our uniform requirements. Trainers, trainer-style shoes and canvas footwear are not permitted under any circumstances, regardless of how they are described by the retailer.

Acceptable Shoes Guidance →Jewellery and Makeup
Harper Green operates a no jewellery policy, with the exception of a wristwatch. Smartwatches are not permitted.
Any unauthorised jewellery may be confiscated by staff and returned in line with school procedures. Students who repeatedly fail to meet expectations may receive further consequences.
Body piercings and body adornments of any kind are not permitted.
The following are also not permitted:
- Nail varnish
- Acrylic or gel nails
- Extended or false eyelashes
If a student refuses to comply with these expectations, parents or carers may be asked to attend a meeting and the student may be isolated until the issue has been resolved.

Pre-Loved Uniform Scheme
Our pre-loved scheme continues to offer high-quality, pre-loved uniform items to all students. Through this scheme, students can access clothing that has been carefully checked and cleaned, helping families save money while promoting sustainability. Pre-loved items are also a great way for siblings to share uniform where possible. Along with our reduced branded items, this scheme provides support to all families throughout the school year.

Uniform Expectations
We want every student to meet our uniform expectations and will always provide opportunities to correct any issues where possible.
Where students refuse to comply with the uniform policy, appropriate consequences may be applied in line with the school's behaviour procedures. Items such as jewellery, hoodies and caps may be confiscated and returned in accordance with school procedures. Persistent failure to meet the school's expectations may result in further consequences.
Students are responsible for their own personal belongings whilst on the school site. The school cannot accept responsibility for uniform or personal items that are lost or stolen.
